It was a great night to meet and greet the Honeynet members from around the globe. There was an ice-breaking session for the members to socialize with other chapter members. I met lot of them notably Lance Spitzner (Chicago chapter), Sju Usken, Tor Skaar and Einar Oftedal (Norwegian chapter), Jamie Riden (UK chapter), Williams (Global chapter), Cecil Su, Eugeue Teo and Nicolas Collerty (SG Chapter), Peter Cheung and Roland Cheung (HK Chapter), Eugene Yeh (Taiwan Chapter), Adil Wahid (.my CERT chapter), Jianwei Zhuge (Chinese chapter), Felix Ledner (Giraffe chapter) and many others that I probably missed out. Nice ambiance, good food and great companions (All geeks gathered around). What can I ask for more? Highly intoxicated by alcohol, off for a good night sleep is good for me. There are still nice talks to attend to tomorrow. ;P

After a long development on 2.x branch, HeX LiveCD 2.0-RC1 is now available. It’s FreeBSD 7.0 based and stuffed with lots of NSM apps. With unionfs, HeX 2.0-RC1 loads even faster than the previous version.

However. there are a few known issue: -

- Netdude is broken – Passed to the author
- Autopsy is broken(sleuthkit issue) – Unknown, sleuthkit 0.52 is broken in ports
- Gvim is broken(font not available) – Fixed in development
- Flowtag is broken(Looking for older version of tcl while new one is installed) – Passed to the author
- NSM Console(Snort module where wrong path is defined in snort configuration file) – Passed to the author
- Silktools(Flowcap and Rwflowpack) – Unknown
- Ragraph is broken – Unknown
- Zsh is missing – Fixed in development

If you are on FreeBSD 7.0 and have problem booting up HeX LiveCD with qemu, try this

kldload aio

and add -std-vga option to qemu command line. For example:-

qemu -boot d -cdrom hex-i386-1.0.2.iso -localtime -std-vga

Malaysian Distributed Honeynet Project led by Spoonfork was accepted by The Honeynet Project as new Chapter on the team. This was a good head start for all of us and I hope our team could work harder.

The RaWPacket team has decided to move cvs to svn a while ago and thanks to Mel for importing Hex cvs to svn which can be found here.

Every business wifi today, every individual in wireless internet coverage, now that is what I call a sprint wireless world. There is easy access to wireless internet service today. With a wireless internet cafe sprouting in every street overnight, it is not a wonder. We now not only have a wireless keyboard and mouse, but a wireless printer and scanner as well.

We are pleased to release Hex LiveCD 1.0.1 to address boot performance and javascript issue on firefox. This build should be perfect version for FreeBSD 6.2-stable based Hex LiveCD. We will go 7.x and unionfs (hopefully) for next release.
